Dental implants are an amazingly effective and efficient piece of modern orthodontics that we use to fill in the gaps left behind from an accident or oral disease.
We know all too well that having missing teeth can effect confidence when talking to people., sometimes people want to cover and hide their smiles as much as possible. Gaps in your teeth can have a profound effect with your experience of food too.
The good news is that we can correct those gaps, discomforts and we can make you feel normal again in social situations, very quickly.
It is important that dental implants and bone grafts are corrected as soon as possible so that they do not effect other surrounding teeth which could also fall out under the lack of structural support.
This is why we offer consultations with an expert orthodontist that you may not get at other practices. This is a great opportunity for us to access any gaps you have in your smile and answer any questions you might have. Request your consultation by using this form or read more about the procedure below.
What are dental implants?
The fact is that losing teeth is nothing to be embarrassed about, we see people who have lost teeth almost everyday and it’s our job to use our expertise to put it right. People lose their teeth all the time! The usual culprits are trauma through accidents, gum disease, decay and even old age. We advise to have the missing teeth replaced as quickly as possible for functionality and practical reasons, although we are mostly contacted for aesthetic purposes and to make smiles look great again.
All on 4 dental implants using only 4 – 6 implants for upper or lower jaw
Dental implants are great because they provide a long term solution and are incredibly strong, supporting other nearby teeth and bone. Dental implants are artificial and made from titanium. A socket is drilled to support the implant and allows for any bridge, dentures or crowns to be positioned in place depending on the circumstance. We will need to assess your gums and teeth before going forward to ensure viability for the procedure. This assessment is all done at no cost to you and any gum disease or decay will need to be treated before going forward, but this will all be discussed with you.
The socket is created with a drill and sounds a lot worse than what it is, we promise! Local anesthetic can be used to remove any pain.
The gum where the implant will be located is cut, lifted and an artificial socket is drilled in the jawbone. This is why we will need to take x-rays to assess the strength of the bone as bone grafts may need to be created to accommodate the implant. The titanium implant is placed securely into the socket and the aesthetics of the gum are addressed by stitching the gum we cut back over the new implant.
It takes between 6 weeks and 5 months for the area the fully heal, during which time the bone and surrounding tissue integrates itself with the new implant. You will be given temporary teeth or you can continue to wear dentures if you would prefer.
Once the area is fully healed you will be fitted with a temporary crown. It is often 4 weeks later that your final tooth can be fitted for the perfect result. We will be with you throughout the procedure for after care and available via phone, email or you are more than welcome to come and see us!
